App Review: Icebreaker Hockey
As most of us know, the Stanley Cup finals have gone, and the Boston Bruins are World Champions. Sadly, my Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t, but one of my favorite hockey games on the iPhone is Icebreaker Hockey. You may be familiar with Backbreaker Football, and Icebreaker is very similar to it. You try to skate across the rink all the way to the other side of the rink, while avoiding opponents body checks by deking, and spinning by opponents. Today I’ll be giving you a review of this app. I rate each category from 1 to 10, and average all the category’s rating to get a final score.
The first category I will average in to the final score is simply how fun the game is to play. As I’m sure many of us have played Backbreaker, the concept of the game is similar, and thus it will have the same amount of addictiveness to the game as Backbreaker. I could play this game for a while without stopping, and is certainly a huge time killer. With that being said, I give the fun a 9 out of 10.
The second category that I will review is Ease of Use. The game is pretty simple as you try to evade all defenders who try to check you, and keep you from scoring. To evade them you tap the buttons with the corresponding move you want to the player to do. The moves include, left and right spins, left and right dekes, turbo, and showboat. To move forward you simply tilt the device in that direction, or any other direction you want to move. I got a hold of the controls right when I started playing the game, and I’m sure anyone else could too. So, I give the Ease of Use a 9.5 out of 10.
The third category is features. When you start a game, you can choose between a couple teams, and pick your name and number. Features is not a strong suit in this game, though. It would’ve been nice to pick between different arenas, and actually be able to play a game, or play defense. With that being said, I give the features a 7 out of 10.
The fourth and final category is value. The game is very addicting, and will suit you for hours. The Backbreaker series has always been known for that. The app is $0.99 on sale, and $2.99 on regular price. I believe it is fair, and is a good deal. I would give the value a 9 out of 10.
Overall, the game is very fun, and is a must have for the iPhone gamer. The Backbreaker series has always been of high standards, and Icebreaker has continued that. Overall the app gets an 8.6 out of 10. Definitely consider getting this app.
