App Review: Qik Video Camera Pro
One of the main features missing from the old 2G iPhone, and iPhone 3G was the lack of an internal video camera. But with this app, you can record a fairly good quality video with the 2 megapixel camera built inside your iPhone. Today I’ll be giving you a review over the app. I rate each category from 1 to 10 and average all the categories together and get an overall score.
The first, and probably the most important thing are the sound and video quality. The sound is probably the best in the whole App Store. Considering the speaker in the iPhone 3G, Qik Video Pro exceeds the expectations of a normal video app. That is probably why it’s one of the most downloaded photography apps in the App Store itself. The video quality is determined with the lighting of the room you are in. If you are in a room with little to no light, your video will probably just be black. However, if you are in a room with great lighting, your video will turn out pretty good. I even recorded one of my school projects on my iPhone. The quality and sound turned out great. Overall, I would give the sound and video quality 7.5 out of 10.
The second thing is the Ease of Use. The recorder is very simple and straight forward. There is a big red record button that you press to start the recording, and then press it again to stop. You can also press the magnifying glass located at the bottom to activate a 1 to 5x digital zoom. The zoom does not have great quality, but what would you expect from a 2MP camera? The Qik Video Pro application also comes with many different filters. I don’t use them much but when I do they tend to be hard to switch between. In Ease of Use I give it 9.0 out of 10.
The third thing I will average in to the overall rating is features. It is a video camera app, so pretty much all you would expect is a video camera, but Qik Video incorporates many different sharing features, and unique filters. In Qik Video Camera it has many video sharing options, after you have shot the video. Some of these include posting to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and most importantly, exporting to the camera roll. It also has very interesting filters. There is a thermal filter, a grayscale filter, and a fun PhotoMix filter. Qik Video Camera offers a plethora of features that you sure will like. I give the Features 8.5 out of 10.
The fourth and final category I will review of this app is the value for your money. This is a pro app so you should expect the best that it has to offer, and that’s exactly what you get. Qik Video I think is the best Video Camera app on the App Store today. The quality is great, the sound is great, the features are great, and the app is just all-around great. I would seriously consider getting this if you are an iPhone 3G, or iPhone 2G user. I give the value 9.5 out of 10.
Overall, Qik Video is a great app. The app is only $2.99 and you still get the best video app on the App Store. After averaging out all the scores my review of Qik Video Camera Pro gives the app an 8.6 out of a total 10. This is a great app even for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users and I strongly consider you check this app out.
