Apple has finally cracked! They caved to the pressure, and gave in to temptation.

No, they aren’t giving up the fight against jailbreakers. Sorry to get your hopes up.

Apple has officially signed up on Twitter! That is, they signed up for an official App Store Twitter account “App”tly named @appstore.

While this news is not as huge as Apple bowing out of the jailbreak fight (it wouldn’t be any fun if they did!), this is still  (kinda, maybe, sort of, possibly, almost) exciting.

Apple’s Twitter handle, @appstore, promises to deliver “official App Store tweets including our featured apps, exclusive offers, and more.”

@appstore posted its first Tweet merely 8 hours ago, and they are already 60k followers strong, and growing by the minute. One thing I have noticed, upon closer inspection, is that Apple also has 5 other accounts as well:

Something that the folks over at TUAW pointed out, one question that seems to be on many people’s minds is what about apps that aren’t featured on, or part of top charts lists? I personally think @appstore, if used right, will be a great way to improve discoverability of lesser-known apps.

Oh, don’t use Twitter? They’re on Facebook too!
