Apple discontinues TV Show Rentals

One of the minor stories that have come out regarding Apple in the aftermath of Steve Job’s resignation is that Apple has discountinued their unpopular TV rental service. The service, which launched last fall, never gained the support from the studios that Apple had hoped to see and thus had to discontinue the service.

Rentals were initially available through the Apple store and Apple TV but the service has mysteriously dissapeared without any announcement from the company. The service was launched alongside the Apple TV and was meant to make it easier to watch TV using the device.

The following statement was from an Apple spokesperson:

“iTunes customers have shown they overwhelmingly prefer buying TV shows,” Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said. “iTunes in the Cloud lets customers download and watch their past TV purchases from their iOS devices, Apple TV, Mac or PC allowing them to enjoy their programming whenever and however they choose.”

As time went on, networks slowly began pulling out of the service and pulling their shows from the service.

Did you guys use the service at all? I personally prefer buying my shows. Are you sad to see it go? Leave all of your thoughts in the comment section below.
