We run millions of dollars in Facebook Ads per year. So what have we learned?

If we could go back in time and tell ourselves just one thing about making profitable Facebook ads is: choose MOBILE news feed placements.

That’s right. Changing the placements of your ads can change your whole strategy, and get you better returns. That’s because a whopping 95.1% of Facebook’s 2.2 BILLION users access Facebook through their mobile devices. So specifically targeting your ads to this segment of people can help you focus in where it’s important.
Now, we’re not saying other types of placements won’t work for you. We’ve had success with all kinds of placements, but we always start with mobile. If you want to test what’s working best for your ads, create separate ad sets within the same campaign that are identical except for their placements.
Don’t know how to change the placements? No sweat, we’ll walk you through it step by step.
First things first, you’ll want to open up your Ads Manager-

Then, you’ll want to click on a campaign and select or create an ad set. Just to see how it works, we suggest looking at an ad set you already have created. Then, you’ll want to click on the edit button on the right side of your screen.

Scroll down a bit, and viola! The placements section. This is what it will look like automatically. While this setting will work fine sometimes, it’s better to know exactly where people are seeing your ads.

Go ahead and click “Edit Placements” so you can start customizing your ads. Head on over to the device types dropdown menu and select “Mobile Only”.

One last thing before your ads start soaring to new heights. Facebook has a lot of different ways to show your ad to people, but we’ve found that the news feed is the best place to show people your ads. So you’ll want to unselect everything other than your feed. At the end it should look a little like this.

And that’s it! A one minute change that we wish we had made earlier. We hope this helps everyone who is new to Facebook ads to create more profitable ads.

Our whole team is inside of Facebook ads all day long. We do absolutely everything we can to automate things like creating new audiences, testing thousands of ads, creating videos etc. because we know the more ads we test, the more winners we find.
The problem is it takes a long time to run all those tests. That’s why we use Adchill. We have 10X’d our business since using Adchill. It has helped us save 95% of our time and cut our conversion costs in half.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 iOS 5 Jailbreak Arrives http://johnsiphone.com/iphone-4s-ipad-2-ios-5-jailbreak-arrives/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=iphone-4s-ipad-2-ios-5-jailbreak-arrives http://johnsiphone.com/iphone-4s-ipad-2-ios-5-jailbreak-arrives/#comments Sun, 22 Jan 2012 03:52:07 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6492

Hacker p0sixninja just posted the long awaited untethered jailbreak for A5-driven devices running iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1. The software has been a long awaited followup to the untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak for no A5 devices, which was released last December. According to a couple of blogs, the new jailbreak, called Absinthe A5 was not a walk in the park.

The updated greenpois0n tool is available for download for both Mac and PC. The application and lets iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users jailbreak their device without the need to tether it to a computer for every reboot. The jailbreak can be used with the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

From 9to5Mac

On Monday, Hacker pod2g pointed at a video by Chronic Dev Team member Dustin Howett that showed a successful untethered jailbreak being performed on an iPhone 4S. The updated greenpois0n tool takes advantage of the so-calledcorona exploit by hacker pod2g. It should be noted that both the iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev team collaborated on the project, with help from countless contributors and jailbreak enthusiasts around the world.

Here is the step by step.

How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with Absinthe

Step 1: Download, extract, and run Absinthe from our downloads page.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 via USB.

Step 3: Click “Jailbreak” to run the Absinthe jailbreak. It will take a while on the beginning portion, and eventually your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 will look like it’s restoring a backup. It will say “Restoring in Progress”. This can be pretty lengthy. Don’t worry, it’s working. Don’t touch your device until completely finished!

Step 4: Once completed, unlock your iPhone if necessary, and you should see an Absinthe icon on the Home screen. You may have to search for it if you have a lot of app icons. Tap the Absinthe icon, and it should load the GreenPois0n site, and will then reboot your device. Once it loads back up, the Cydia icon will have replaced the Absinthe icon.

Step 5: Your iPhone 4S or iPad 2  is now  jailbroken! It took a while, but it was certainly worth the wait. Now all that’s left to do is load Cydia for the first time, and start downloading your favorite jailbreak apps and tweaks.

Apple to hold ‘education’ event http://johnsiphone.com/apple-hold-education-event/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=apple-hold-education-event http://johnsiphone.com/apple-hold-education-event/#comments Sat, 14 Jan 2012 17:37:29 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6471

First reported by the Loop, Apple has sent out invitations for a special media to be held in New York City next Thursday, Jan. 19. THe invitation’s graphic has the New York skyline as well as an Apple silhouette and the tagline:

Join us for an education announcement in the Big Apple.

The invite has arrived after a bunch of speculation that the nature of the event would not be anything major, which was first hinted at by AllThingsD. The publication reported that the Apple presser will not be big news and will not be concerned with a huge theatrical announcement, such as an iPad or Apple TV.

From 9to5Mac

It will focus on iBooks, another report said. With education the focus, this leaves iBooks and perhaps textbooks, another market Jobs wanted to disrupt, as the main attraction. The presser is said to involve Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue, whose recently expanded responsibilities now include the App Store, iTunes Store, iAd, iCloud and iBooks.

According to an excerpt from the authorized Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson, Jobs wanted to disrupt the school textbook business:

He held meetings with major publishers about partnering with Apple, the book says. If textbooks were given away free on iPads he thought the publishers could get around the state certification of textbooks. Mr. Isaacson said Mr. Jobs believed that states would struggle with a weak economy for at least a decade. “We can give them an opportunity to circumvent that whole process and save money,” he told Mr. Isaacson.

Are you excited for the event?

Verizon to require LTE in future smartphones http://johnsiphone.com/verizon-require-lte-future-smartphones/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=verizon-require-lte-future-smartphones http://johnsiphone.com/verizon-require-lte-future-smartphones/#comments Fri, 13 Jan 2012 05:36:44 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6468

One thing that Apple has really been lacking the last year has been their lack of support for the popular LTE 4G network. The company released their new flagship phone and tablet, both of which had no LTE support.

Nearly ever Android phone that is being released has LTE built into their products, however Apple has continued to do it their own way  and not implement LTE in favor of battery life and reliability. However, it looks like there might not be a choice in the future.

CNET is reporting that Verizon has announced a “hard requirement” for future phones, tablets and devices to contain LTE technology. This is a firm strategy for the Big Red with a couple of exceptions.

“From now on, nearly every smartphone, wireless hot spot, tablet, and netbook that Verizon offers will come with LTE guns-a-blazing. Yes, Virginia, that includes Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices, too. There will be the occasional exception, however. For instance, phones on Verizon’s push-to-talk network are 3G-only for now, and will remain that way until further notice.”

Will Apple follow Verizon’s new requirement? Probably not. However it does make it a little more interesting and speculative as to whether or not we will be seeing LTE technology on the iPhone and iPad just because Verizon says so. Apple is one of the few companies who has enough authority that can stand up to large carriers and ignore their rules. Apple doesn’t have carrier logos on their hardware nor pre-installed software.

Apple could still decided to implement LTE in their next device. Not only are smaller LTE chips being created, but roll out has increased. 2/3 of American now has LTE coverage.

iOS 5.01 Jailbroken http://johnsiphone.com/ios-501-jailbroken/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ios-501-jailbroken http://johnsiphone.com/ios-501-jailbroken/#comments Wed, 28 Dec 2011 06:18:57 +0000 Sean http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6413

Jailbreak iOS 5Today pod2g released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.01. This is great news for all the people out there running devices that are still on iOS 4. However, the sad news is, that the jailbreak is only offered for non A5 owners. So anyone out there with an iPhone 4S or an iPad 2 are still out of luck for a little while longer.

As an owner of the iPad 2, and an iPhone 4S, I feel a little left out. When I first read some tweets from friends about jailbreaking their phones and unlocking some of the more powerful apps that are available for jailbreakers, I was jealous. There are a few things I want to play with on my iPhone. One of the things I am looking forward to adding is some themes. I have always been a fan of the Glass Orb look on the iPhone 4 (the retina display makes it oh so pretty). So there are things out there that draw me to jailbreaking my devices. So for a part of the day, I sulked, thinking that maybe I should not have upgraded my phone so early and things like that. After a few hours though, I thought about it rationally and realized there wasn’t all that much out there. While yes, the themes would have been nice, that would have been the only real benefit that I would have gained from cracking open my iPhone. I like to jailbreak because it makes me feel cool and smart. There is a sense of ownership that you gain when you jailbreak your phone, but on the other hand, why do it?

With the release of iOS 5, 99.99% of my desires were satisfied as far as the software is concerned. Notifications are brilliant, just the way I could have ever wanted them, customizable sounds for my texts, and wireless syncing to my computer. I was pleased as could be when iOS 5 was released, and with the speed of the A5 chip behind it, the phone is a powerhouse in my pocket. There is not really anything left that I would jailbreak for. Yes, I would love to add a bit of flair to my phone, and the way it behaves, but other than that, I’m pleased as punch with the device itself. Once upon a time, I would have jailbroken so I could add features I felt I was missing, but those days are really gone. I have a device I am perfectly happy with. So why jailbreak? All in all, I can be patient and wait for a jailbreak for my devices. I know it will come eventually, and I know that I will almost certainly test it out, but I can wait like a good boy until that happens.

How to Install Siri DICTATION on iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod touch 4 http://johnsiphone.com/install-siri-dictation-iphone-4-3gs-ipod-touch-4/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=install-siri-dictation-iphone-4-3gs-ipod-touch-4 http://johnsiphone.com/install-siri-dictation-iphone-4-3gs-ipod-touch-4/#comments Sat, 10 Dec 2011 17:51:07 +0000 Lane http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6323

Many of us were very irritated that absolutely NO Siri features were included with iOS 5 for one generation older devices like the iPhone 4, 3GS, and the iPod touch 4th, and 5th generation. However, I have come across one way to install the dictation that Siri includes. This means that you will be able to say something to the iPhone, and it will instantly input what you have just said. I must say though, before you read the whole article, you MUST be jailbroken for this. There is no code as of now to put in and edit the backup file of your device.

Jailbroken iPhone 4, 3GS, or 4th/5th generation iPod touch

iOS 5.0+ (only a tethered JB as of now for 5.0, not tested with iOS 4)

1. First you obviously must open up Cydia. Then, go to your sources page and add a new one.

2. Input the address EXACTLY as you see below.

3. Open up the new source and download Sirious. Once you are finished with the downloading process your device you will have Siri dictation, and will have at least one cool feature that Apple has meanly left out for older devices.

Remember that I or anyone at Johnsiphone.com are responsible of the bricking of anyone’s iDevice. (There is a tutorial on how to unbrick a device here) So you are trying this at your own risk. But, trust me that it is a safe source, and good to download. I’m pretty sure that someone will release an untethered jailbreak in the next two to three weeks, so you might want to stick around for updates on that, as simply just rebooting your device could make you lose your jailbreak,

I haven’t posted many articles lately, but more will be more to come! It is sure to be one of Apple’s most newsworthy year!

iTV to come in 3 Size Varients http://johnsiphone.com/itv-3-size-varients/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=itv-3-size-varients http://johnsiphone.com/itv-3-size-varients/#comments Thu, 08 Dec 2011 05:23:23 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6345

Apple fanboys, investors, analysts and tech pundits have been expecting Apple to release an iTV or an Apple TV set for more than a couple of years. Many people would like to see what Apple can do with the TV business. The best case scenarion is that Apple can recreate what it did for both the tablet and smartphone market.

There has been many rumors regarding the TV, with Siri integration being rumored as well as built in iCloud and App Store support. There have not been many details on the hardware until now.

Australian site Smarthouse reports that that the next Apple TV will come in three sizes ranging from 32-55 inches and is expected to be released before the holidays next year.

“The Apple TVs will incorporate a new processor that is set to appear in the iPad 3, which is due midway through 2012. A totally new software interface has been written that allows users to call up programs using voice commands via the new Siri personal assistant app built in the ipad, iPhone and directly into the TV.

Sources at a major Japanese company who are involved in manufacturing the TV believe that the 55″ model will compete with new Smart TVs from Samsung and LG that will have new processor built in while offering a combination of OLED display, as well as new Super HD TV technology from LG.”

The report comes from an unknown source, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

LTE iPhone 5 and iPad 3 on the way? http://johnsiphone.com/lte-iphone-5-ipad-3/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lte-iphone-5-ipad-3 http://johnsiphone.com/lte-iphone-5-ipad-3/#comments Tue, 01 Dec 1970 23:00:00 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6307

According to Japanese blog Macotakara, Apple is planning to release a 4G LTE iPhone and iPad on NTT DoCoMo, which is the dominant mobile phone carrier in Japan.

The Fall 2011 is projected timeframe for the 4G iPhone 5, as it will be a year since the release of the iPhone 4S. The carriers president Kiyoyuki Tsujimura and vice president Takashi Yamada met with CEO Tim Cook mid-November to discuss the status of teh next iPhone. The executives have pinned down the rules at the meeting, including order commitment.

While there were rumors brewing that Apple was getting ready to prepare a 4G LTE device, the company felt that the LTE technology was not developed enough to support an iPhone.

From 9to5Mac:

The Wall Street Journal reported mid-November that negotiations with carriers in Asia came to a standstill because Apple was requiring iPhone sellers to commit to too large a volume. Additionally, NTT DoCoMo wanted to control what software goes on users’ iPhones, a concession Apple was unwilling to make.

Apple doesn’t have a prior distribution agreement with NTT DoCoMo. Instead, the Cupertino, California designer of gadgets partnered with local carrier Softbank to sell the handset to customers in Japan. Beginning with iPhone 4S, Softbank’s exclusivity ended as Apple cut an agreement with au/KDDI. As you know, 9to5Mac yesterday discovered evidence pointing to a next-generation iPhone and iPad in the code of iOS 5.1 Beta, which was seeded to developers on Monday. An iPhone 5,1 reference is of particular interest as it indicates a major iPhone update likely involving Apple’s A6 chip, designed in-house and believed to sport four ARM Cortex A15 processing cores and an unknown graphics core. An iPad 2,4 reference, which we also discovered in iOS 5.1 Beta code, implies a carrier variation, which could mean anything from a 4G LTE version to a GSM+CDMA dual-mode device to a Sprint iPad 2 or something completely new. In a somewhat related iPhone news, carrier China Unicom is said to be awaiting the final paperwork to begin selling iPhone 4S in China. The country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently finished testing the device, it passed the necessary wireless regulatory tests and is now certified for public consumption. China, the 1.33 billion people market, recently overtook the United States to become the world’s leading market for smartphones. Accounting for twelve percent of Apple’s fiscal 2011 revenue, or about fifteen billion dollars, China is increasingly becoming one of Apple’s key growth regions.

So when do you think the 4G LTE iPhone 5 will be released?

Brazilian-Made 8 GB iPhone 4 Surfaces http://johnsiphone.com/brazilianmade-8-gb-iphone-4-surfaces/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brazilianmade-8-gb-iphone-4-surfaces http://johnsiphone.com/brazilianmade-8-gb-iphone-4-surfaces/#comments Tue, 29 Nov 2011 17:17:57 +0000 Joon http://johnsiphone.com/?p=6286

Apple has recently begun producing both iPads and iPhones in Brazil, with iPhone production currently moving quicker than iPad production.

Evidence of Brazilian iPhone production is already up online, as a picture of a new 8 Gb iPhone 4 carrying the markings revealing its production in Brazil have surfaced.

From MacRumors

Aside from an “Indústria Brasileira” notice replacing the usual “Assembled in China” statement found on most iPhones, the new Brazilian model also includes a regulatory agency logo from Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications. The software also reports a model number of MD198BR, with the “BR” suffix suggesting a Brazil-specific model.

Apple is getting ready to introduce the 8 GB iPhone 4 in Brazil and a separate source has told MacMagazine.com.br that the device is set to launch December 2nd. The launch would come alongside the launch of the 4S in Brazil, although no other specific information about the launch has been provided.

High import taxes on products such as the iPhone and iPad have resulted in the adoption of Apple’s devices in Brazil to be very slow. With the production in Brazil getting started, Apple hopes to spur growth of its products in Brazil.

iPad production has yet begin in Brazil, although Foxconn claims that production will be ramping up in the next few months.
