How to Enable Home Screen Wallpaper, Battery Percentage with No Jailbreak on iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 2G

Many of us old iPhone and iPod touch users were disappointed that in the release of iOS 4.0, there were no background wallpapers, multitasking, and battery percentage. I have figured out a method to enable two of these features without the risk of jailbreaking your device.

An iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2nd Gen with 4.0 to 4.2.1 (This will NOT work with iPhone 2G or iPod touch 1st Generation)

A computer with iTunes 10 installed

A dock connector that connects with the iPod touch or iPhone

iBackupBot which can be found here (Trust Me it’s virus free)

1. First connect your iPod touch, or iPhone to your computer. Sync all of your data and make a backup on iTunes. PLEASE make sure to sync all of your data to iTunes as if something goes wrong and you must restore your Phone or iPod your purchases will be lost.

2. After the backup has been made, close iTunes, but do not disconnect your device. Make sure iBackupBot is installed. Click on the shortcut, or find the program on your computer and open the program. It will load your device’s information and the recent backups made. Check the date on the backup of your device and choose the one you just made. It will load several files with long names.

3. Now comes the actual coding. Locate the file named Library/Preferences/ Double click on the name. If a window prompting you to register comes up click Cancel. It will open up a new window with many different codes.

4. Look around the codes and find a place where it says <true/>. Click on the end of it and press enter. Now enter the code below:

<key>homescreen-wallpaper</key> (then make a new line by pressing enter)

5. Now for battery percentage. Press enter where you typed the Home Screen Wallpaper and type the following code below:

<key>SBShowBatteryLevel</key> (then make a new line by pressing enter)

6. Now that you have finished entering the last code click on the floppy disk at the top and save the changes you have made, and exit out.

7. The seventh and final step is to click on the iPhone at the top with the blue arrow on it. It will begin restoring from the backup that you made earlier, but with the code changes you recently made. Don’t worry you won’t have to sync all of your apps, music, contacts etc. back to your iPhone or iPod touch. It will say on your iPhone or iPod touch screen “Restore in Progress”. When the restore is complete it will simply sat “Restore Complete” and will automatically reboot your iPhone or iPod touch. It should reboot with the Battery Percentage at the top enabled, and when you access the SpringBoard it will have the Apple Raindrop background.

NOTE: This may make your icon entrance and launches a bit laggy or slow, but does not slow the iPhone or iPod down. Also, you may not change the iPhone’s wallpaper from the raindrop. You also have no option to turn the Battery Percentage off. If you want to disable the features, just delete the code that you entered, and click the iPhone with the blue arrow and it will restore with the features disabled.
