iOS 5 Already Cracked
A little more than 24 hours after the beta was released, the brave men on the iPhone Dev Team have already cracked iOS 5. That’s right, iOS 5 is already jailbreakable! So, for those lucky few who have it already installed, feel free to enjoy Cydia!
As far as Cydia goes, it appears as if everything is running just fine like it always does. You can, as always, count on those trusty developers to cook something really cool up for your jailbroken iPhone – now running iOS 5! You can just use the existing redsn0w to jailbreak, as usual. Please note – it is still tethered!
iOS 5 has been cracked in other ways, too. Apple normally requires a developer’s account to use their betas and downloads. However, thanks to a developer by the name of Mert Erdir, you no longer need to be a developer to use iOS 5 Beta 1- however, you do have to be using an iPhone. The method will not work on iPads or iPod Touches – believe me, I tried. All you have to do is install iOS 5 as usual by downloading the firmware (find it on Google), shift-clicking on PC or option-clicking on Mac the Restore button in iTunes, then find the firmware you just downloaded and send it to work. After it’s finished installing, turn on your iPhone to the lock screen. Triple – yes, three times – press the home button to activate VoiceOver. Then triple click the home button to make Emergency Call appear. Click on Emergency Call, and while it’s switching, pull down with three fingers to reveal the Notifications Center. Click on the Weather widget, and the Weather App will load. Then just press the home button and you’re to the lock screen! And there you go! A non-developer access to iOS 5.
If, for some reason, you don’t like iOS 5, you can always downgrade to iOS 4.3.3 by putting your device into DFU mode and then following the same process – downloading the firmware, and option/shift-clicking Restore.
Now, go off and have fun with your newly jailbroken iOS 5 iPhones! Let me know how it works for you in the comments.
Hi John,
I have a iphone 4 running ios 4.3. I never jailbroke the phone before i upgraded to the newer software version. Is there still a way to jail brake it so i can use an international sim card. Would loading ios 5 help in any way? Thanks Justin
