iPhone Customers on AT&T Loyal

When the iPhone was announced in the summer of 2007, the phone was not the only shocking part of the announcement. The fact that Apple had carrier exclusivity with AT&T shocked the industry. While many phones have been pushed onto as many carriers as possible, Apple took a different approach and reached an exclusive deal with AT&T that lasted until February of 2011.

Despite new competition for the iPhone with Verizon and Sprint, many iPhone owners that were already on AT&T have remained loyal and stayed with the carrier.

Glen Lurie, AT*T’s president of emerging devices, recently said that not many have people have jumped from AT&T to other carriers.

“Churn has not moved at all,” said Glen Lurie, president of emerging devices for AT&T. Churn refers to the number of customers who cancel services.

Lurie said the carrier’s relationship with Apple Inc., maker of the iPhone, has been positive, and they’ve had record-breaking sales of the latest iPhone 4S which has led to some supply issues. U.S. consumers are looking at a week to two week wait times to get the latest iPhone 4S from AT&T, he said.

With the very successful launch of the iPhone 4S, with the sales of over 1 million units sold, there was only a slight decrease in the amount of activations for AT&T. AT&T has also been noted to have been the fastest of the three carriers in terms of data speed.

Have you jumped from AT&T?
