What I Wish I Knew When I Started Facebook Ads

We run millions of dollars in Facebook Ads per year. So what have we learned?

If we could go back in time and tell ourselves just one thing about making profitable Facebook ads is: choose MOBILE news feed placements.

That’s right. Changing the placements of your ads can change your whole strategy, and get you better returns. That’s because a whopping 95.1% of Facebook’s 2.2 BILLION users access Facebook through their mobile devices. So specifically targeting your ads to this segment of people can help you focus in where it’s important.
Now, we’re not saying other types of placements won’t work for you. We’ve had success with all kinds of placements, but we always start with mobile. If you want to test what’s working best for your ads, create separate ad sets within the same campaign that are identical except for their placements.
Don’t know how to change the placements? No sweat, we’ll walk you through it step by step.
First things first, you’ll want to open up your Ads Manager-

Then, you’ll want to click on a campaign and select or create an ad set. Just to see how it works, we suggest looking at an ad set you already have created. Then, you’ll want to click on the edit button on the right side of your screen.

Scroll down a bit, and viola! The placements section. This is what it will look like automatically. While this setting will work fine sometimes, it’s better to know exactly where people are seeing your ads.

Go ahead and click “Edit Placements” so you can start customizing your ads. Head on over to the device types dropdown menu and select “Mobile Only”.

One last thing before your ads start soaring to new heights. Facebook has a lot of different ways to show your ad to people, but we’ve found that the news feed is the best place to show people your ads. So you’ll want to unselect everything other than your feed. At the end it should look a little like this.

And that’s it! A one minute change that we wish we had made earlier. We hope this helps everyone who is new to Facebook ads to create more profitable ads.

Our whole team is inside of Facebook ads all day long. We do absolutely everything we can to automate things like creating new audiences, testing thousands of ads, creating videos etc. because we know the more ads we test, the more winners we find.
The problem is it takes a long time to run all those tests. That’s why we use Adchill. We have 10X’d our business since using Adchill. It has helped us save 95% of our time and cut our conversion costs in half.
